communal Open Mic Sound Bath night.
Join us for a transformative evening of sonic exploration and visual inspiration at our communal Open Mic Sound Bath night. This unique event blends the soothing immersion of a traditional sound bath with the collaborative spirit of an open mic, where participants bring their own instruments to weave a continuous tapestry of healing sounds. As the sounds unfold, we'll screen a captivating art film or spirit film, inviting musicians and sound enthusiasts to accompany it live with improvisational music, tones, and vibrations. Whether you're an active performer or a passive listener, this 3-hour gathering is designed for flexibility—feel free to drop in and drop out as your energy guides you. No prior experience is required; come as you are to co-create a space of relaxation, connection, and creativity.
HOSTED BY
Graham Slick — Named Best Sound Bath Experience by Willamette Week’s Best of Portland Readers’ Poll 2025.
A lifelong musician and spirit seeker, Graham has spent the past five years immersed in the world of sound baths, quickly emerging as a master of the form. His background in rhythm, creativity, and spiritual inquiry all converge to shape a style that’s as heart-centered as it is skillful. Expect a passionate, playful, and deeply thoughtful guide who brings warmth, curiosity, and authenticity to every session.
What to Expect
This isn't your typical sound bath—it's a communal, interactive experience where the group collectively sustains a meditative sound journey. Participants take turns (or harmonize together) sharing their instruments, building on each other's contributions to maintain a flowing, ambient atmosphere. Midway through, we'll project an evocative art film or spirit film (selected for its thematic depth, such as nature visuals, abstract animations, or spiritual narratives) on a large screen. Attendees are encouraged to respond musically in real-time, syncing sounds with the film's rhythms and imagery for a multisensory immersion. The event runs for 3 hours, allowing ample time for buildup, peak experiences, and gentle wind-down. It's open to all: play if you feel called, or simply bask in the vibrations and visuals. With a drop-in/drop-out format, you can arrive late, leave early, or stay for the full duration without any pressure.
Benefits of Attending
Participating in this sound bath open mic offers a holistic boost to your well-being:
Deep Relaxation and Stress Relief: The resonant sounds from instruments like crystal bowls, gongs, and chimes promote alpha and theta brainwave states, helping to melt away tension and foster inner peace.
Creative Expression and Community Building: Sharing your sounds in a supportive group setting encourages artistic freedom, boosts confidence, and creates bonds with like-minded individuals.
Mindfulness and Spiritual Connection: Accompanying the art or spirit film enhances sensory awareness, sparking intuition, emotional release, and a sense of unity with the collective energy.
Physical and Emotional Healing: Sound vibrations can aid in balancing chakras, improving sleep, reducing anxiety, and even alleviating minor physical discomforts through harmonic resonance.
Flexible Self-Care: The drop-in nature makes it accessible for busy schedules, allowing you to recharge on your terms without commitment.
Whether you're seeking solace, inspiration, or social vibes, this event nurtures both body and soul in a judgment-free zone.
What to Bring
To make the most of your experience, we recommend packing these essentials:
Your Instrument(s): Anything that creates soothing, ambient sounds—think singing bowls, handpans, flutes, drums, chimes, guitars (acoustic or lightly amplified), or even your voice for vocal toning. If you're new, simple items like a rattle or bell work wonders.
Comfort Items: A yoga mat, blanket, cushion, or pillow for lounging on the floor during the sound bath. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to allow for easy movement and relaxation.
Hydration and Snacks: A water bottle to stay hydrated, and light, non-messy snacks if you need a quick energy boost (though eating during the session is discouraged to maintain focus).
Optional Extras: Eye mask or blindfold for deeper immersion, journal for post-event reflections, or essential oils/crystals to enhance your personal space. If you don't have an instrument, no worries—we'll have a few communal ones available to borrow, and you're welcome to just observe and absorb.
Guidelines and Etiquette
To ensure a harmonious environment for everyone:
Respect the Flow: When it's your turn or you're contributing, keep sounds gentle and meditative—avoid abrupt or overly loud noises that could disrupt the bath.
Mindful Participation: Signal your interest to play by raising a hand or using our simple queue system. Listeners are encouraged to remain quiet and present.
Tech and Distractions: Silence your phone and avoid photography/video during the session to preserve the sacred space (we'll have a designated photo time at the end).
Inclusivity: This is a safe, welcoming space for all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. If you have sensitivities (e.g., to certain sounds), let the facilitator know upon arrival.
Health Note: If you have conditions like epilepsy, pregnancy, or sound sensitivities, consult a healthcare provider beforehand, as intense vibrations may affect some individuals.
