6–9 in
Higher and lighter. Quick to speak, easy to carry, a focused tone with a shorter ring.
10–14 in
The middle of the set. Balanced volume and sustain; the most versatile for personal practice and for leading groups.
16 in and up
Deep and long. Strong vibration you feel as much as hear. They need floor space and a steady hand.

440 Hz or 432 Hz
Bowls are relational: played together, their tones meet and make new harmonics. Choose one tuning for a set so the bowls agree with each other. 440 Hz bowls are tuned to concert pitch; 432 Hz bowls are tuned in just intonation.
Pitch is an art and a science
Crystal bowls are made by hand, and each one can sit a few cents above or below its exact pitch. That's part of its character, and it can be adjusted. The simplest way is water tuning: a little water in the bowl lowers its pitch, so a bowl that sits sharp can be brought into step with the rest of a set, by ear or with a tuner.
